As a company we believe that learning is a lifelong process. No matter where you are now there will always be somewhere else to go in your learning journey, especially as the world's knowledge economy continues to boom.
We value people, their unique perspectives and their differences. We love meeting new people and helping them work towards their dreams, this why we love working in EFL. Our focus is on communication and targeted development to bring out the best in both individuals and teams.
We are a UK-based company (company number 11637452) and work with clients all over the world.
Our Founder and Managing Director, Claire Collis is CELTA, DELTA, PGCE and PRINCE2 certified. She began working in the industry at 18 in a summer school role as an Activity Leader. Since then she has worked as an EFL Teacher, a Teacher Trainer (CLIL and Technology) and in Academic Management. More recently she has focused on technology; working as a Learning Technologist and in online course development. Currently Claire is working towards her MSc Digital Education at the University of Edinburgh and ACC (Associate Certified Coach) certification with the International Coach Federation.
In early 2018 she left her "real" job to travel and began seriously building her freelance teaching business bit by bit. After trying some big online companies and platforms to varying degrees of success (and sometimes frustration) but valuing her time at a higher rate than any company in the market seemed to pay she was ready for a change. She found that her students were often being charged more than double or triple what she was earning and not getting much more than what she was personally providing. So she found a way to bypass those companies and find her own students.
Following this she created The ELT Skills Academy. Building the business she faced a steep learning curve, coming from a teaching, rather than business background. She spent her time learning about copy writing, social media management, marketing, sales funnels, sales calls, product launches, project management, business development, web development, branding, customer service and the tech tools that make everything else work.
Claire also currently volunteers teaching English to refugees in the UK with the charity RefuAid and as a Career Mentor to students at the University of Exeter.
